I have long experience as Chief Counsel in commercial host liability cases throughout Canada with respect to both coverage and liability. Our focus now is on the serious cases. I have been counsel on some of the leading cases in Canadian law.

Construction Liability

We have decades of experience in defending the entire range of multi-party construction defect cases. We have frequently acted for developers, sub trades and professionals in hundreds of cases. As few of these cases proceed to trial, the focus has to be on coverage and the effective use of resources aimed at timely resolution. We have been involved in the defence of thousands of such cases over the years, with many proceeding to trial. While many such cases can be effectively handled at the adjusting stage, the more serious and contentious cases may require a more senior hand to deal with the catastrophic injuries that may arise and the plethora of fact situations. We have been involved in almost all such cases including fatal injuries, quadriplegia, paraplegia, and brain damage. Numerous coverage issues may arise including limits issues and we are pleased to act as either coverage or defence counsel.

Such cases may give rise to a host of complex issues in coverage, defence, and the quantum of damages. Experience has been gained in the areas of engineering, law, construction, accounting, and the expanding fields of liability for directors and officers, institutions, and financial advisors. Social Host Liability

While the Supreme Court of Canada has been cautious in expanding this area of liability, complex and often catastrophic cases can and do arise. Coverage issues may loom large. Early investigation and analysis may lead to successful to early summary trial applications.

Our practice has included a wide spectrum of such cases including equine liability, skiing, snowmobiles, competitive sports, and many of the accessories used in such activities, including the premises on which such activities take place.
